Brilinta (ticagrelor)

Recommend taking just 81mg/day of aspirin with Brilinta. Explain that higher aspirin doses may make Brilinta less effective.

Don't recommend switching patients already on clopidogrel. Most of the extra benefit with Brilinta is in the first few weeks of therapy.

The controversy about using clopidogrel with PPIs will subside. When a PPI is needed, recommend lanxoprazole, dexlansoprazole or pantoprazole. These are less likely to interact.

Suggest clopidogrel if patients need an anticoagulant. We have more experience using clopidogrel with warfarin.
